Ok, so I am going to focus on blogging for a while to see if it actually will bring more hits to my websites. My art is going well, I am still working on the latest wolf drawing. It seems that with my son's summer athletic activities, and my Dad's hospital stays, my focus has been a bit distracted. But, soon school will start (YEAH!) and things will slow down a bit. LATER!

Not Recession-proof

Anyone who says we are not in a recession is just not aware of the goings-on in the country. I personally have seen a severe drop in sales - people would rather put gas in their cars than buy art. While I totally get that, it still hurts my bottom line.
Anyway, I am still out there creating art, looking for new venues to show and sell art.
My goal for this 4th of July weekend is to finish my current wolf drawing (you will love it!) and get some prints made for sale on my etsy site (CarlaKurtArt.etsy.com).

Working on another wolf pencil drawing

I am about 2/3 of the way finished with another wolf drawing.... I just LOVE working in pencil. I think it's similar to black&white photography..... it lends itself to so much more detail & light. I won't be able to work on it this afternoon... I have to work my dayjob til 5 today.
I got a request for a commissioned drawing - but I simply cannot do a decent drawing for $10. She wanted it in color, no less. Sometimes I wonder if people realize that alot of time & effort (and yes, love) goes into my artwork - I don't just do quick sketches. No matter how much I would like to please everyone, I simply can't. I did alot of research on pricing my artwork, and I believe in fair market value.
OK, I'm down from the soapbox now, contemplating a good Father's Day gift for my Dad. He is really special to me, and I always try to find something he would enjoy. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....

Well, the weatherman was wrong - he said today would be partly sunny and 80 degrees, it is raining and 59. The only thing he had right was the wind. Oh well.

Wildlife and Nature Art in Iowa - tractors too?

Well, I am almost finished with the cougar drawing.... it is turning out better than I thought it would! I am trying to generate some sales thru ebay, etsy.com and artbyus.com, but with gas prices soaring, people are not buying art. AND, the local news here in Eastern Iowa said that Iowa ranks 45th of the 50 states in art purchasing. In the last year that I have been selling my artwork, I have NEVER sold art to anyone in Iowa. Interesting. Maybe if I do a drawing of old John Deere tractors, I will get noticed here. That may be interesting to try... I usually do wildlife / nature pencil drawings... maybe I should try doing a watercolor? We'll see ! Have a great weekend!

I am so excited today... I have been working (slowly but surely) on my new drawing, a cougar, and he is turning out to look AWESOME! His eyes just burn right through you. I am so excited to finish him and get some prints made so I can upload him online. I wonder what I should name him? I always have trouble coming up with interesting names. Thursday 19Apr07OK, I've been a bit distracted now... just found out the X is going to court to try to have his child support reduced.... AGAIN - this guy has filed motions 6 times since 2000, and has never gotten what he wants. I live in another state, so I don't bother to attend. He's made himself quite a reputation with the court there... let him continue to be the idiot he is.OK, now that I've vented about that, time to let it go and think positive thoughts! Yes, I have read The Secret, and am trying to apply it to my life. I want to buy the DVD and watch it again & again, it is much faster than re-reading the book. OK, so I didn't get time to do any artwork yesterday.... but fishing was fun! I caught a fat 10.5 inch bass, first one this season. I think maybe the water is a bit too cold yet, they are still too deep to catch. But spawning should start soon, then they will be hungry! Tonight, I will FORCE myself to sit still long enough to work on my drawing... I also found some cool artist websites to show my work/sell my work - those are worth spending some time on, also. So much to do, so little time! Thats all for today!

I asked him a while ago to give me a little 'push' now & then. I plan to draw this evening after I take him fishing - our favorite summer passtime. There is a pond across the road from our farm, FULL of big bass & crappies - privately owned - can't wait!

Yesterday my aunt came by to purchase a print for a local charity auction - fire & rescue unit dance & auction. She chose Running Free, a horse print. I may decide to donate a print also, am toying with the idea of matting and framing a set of 4 ACEO's of my wolf drawing series. Hmmmmm... we'll see!
